Upcoming Beer & Wine Tastings November 30-December 1

Please join us at the i.m.Wine tasting bar every Friday and Saturday from 1-7pm; this week we are tasting:

Frascati Superiore “Massarosa”, Costantini (Latium, Italy)
Latium is unquestionably one of the most important wine regions in Italy, both in sheer volume as well as quality. And what may come as a surprise to many is that ninety percent of Latium's wines are white, including the region's best known wine – Frascati.

Light, fresh, and utterly satisfying, this Frascati offers a very pleasant aroma and the savor of summer fruit, a subtle minerality, and a citrus twist, all of which conjure images of the glorious sun-drenched Alban Hills.  This Frascati, also, finishes pleasantly dry, with a satisfying freshness that begs for another sip. Moreover, the 2006 Costantini Massarosa possesses a generosity and purity that are rarely seen in modern Frascati. We suggest serving this lovely, Roman treasure well-chilled and then allowing it to open slowly in the glass as it reaches towards a more ambient temperature. Although delicate and light on first impression, this Frascati will unfold gracefully in just a few minutes to reveal its many charms and facets. Enjoy!

2004 Albarino, Lagar de Cervera (Galicia, Spain)
Owned by La Rioja Alta S.A. since 1988, Lagar de Cervera produces some of the finest dry white Albarino in Spain. Located at El Rosal in Galicia, in North West Spain, the wines are meticulously made and rank with the very best from the region. This offering reveals an exotic, Condrieu-like flamboyance backed up by fine minerality, medium body, and loads of tropical fruit.   Light gold, pungent, complex bouquet of pear, apple, minerals, succulent herbs and smoke. Firm and precise, showing excellent cut and thrust to its bright mineral and orchard fruit flavors. Clinging and concentrated on the spicy, long finish. This is wonderfully focused and poised.
Price: $19.99            Special Price: $17.99             Case Price: $16.99

2004 Chianti Classico, Cinciole (Tuscany, Italy)
This little-known Chianti producer makes wines that are lip-smackingly good, refreshing and absolutely true to Sangiovese aromas and flavors. It is not by accident that some of the most respected names in Chianti, such as Ama's Marco Pallanti, will whisper that this estate is one of the very best at making authentic Chianti. Though the superbly located vineyards play a role (one of the two main vineyard areas is on the higher slope of Panzano's famous "conca d'oro," or golden amphitheater), the winemaking here is non-interventionist and uncompromising.   A pretty, medium red-ruby color with downright seductive aromas and flavors of sweet red cherry, strawberry and ripe plum. Supple, sweet and vinous, with an intriguing mineral edge and lightness that that make it hard to put the glass down. Fine tannins echo on the elegant, moderately long finish

2004 Nebbiolo “Langhe”, Revello (Piedmonte, Italy)
Coming seemingly out of nowhere about 10 years ago, brothers Enzo and Carlo Revello took over their father’s nine-hectare estate and almost immediately became one of the hottest estates in La Morra.  The brothers have also been very close to famed winemaker Elio Altare, who, along with Beppe Caviola, has worked with them since their decision to leave their previous careers for full-time winemaking work; Enzo works mainly in the cellar, and Carlo in the vineyard.   The estate’s 2004 Langhe Nebbiolo is a very serious effort at this level. Expansive on the palate, it offers excellent balance with generous, perfumed sweet dark fruit, and fine tannins to round out the finish.
Price: $25.99            Special Price: $23.39            Case Price: $22.09

2005 Font de la Figuera, Clos Figueras (Priorat, Spain)
Christopher Cannan purchased the Priorat estate of Clos Figueres in 1997 on the advice of World renowned Spanish winemaker René Barbier of Clos Mogador. A note on the names: Figueras / Figueres are fig trees in Spanish and Catalan respectively. Long before Christopher Cannan purchased it, the estate was known by the locals as Clos Figueres, but national regulations (dating from the Franco era) required Spanish spellings on all official documents...hence the company name Clos Figueras S.A.   The 2004 Font de Figuera, produced from the vineyard’s young vines, is 60% Grenache, 10% Carignan, and 30% Syrah, Monastrell, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine spent 12 months in demi-muids (about twice the size of a standard barrel) which were a mixture of new and used oak. It gives up an attractive nose of mineral, toast, vanilla, blackberry, and black cherry. Full-bodied and firm on the palate, it has thick, concentrated black fruit flavors, excellent delineation, and a long, pure finish.
