2006 Domaine Tariquet Ugni Blanc/Colombard (Gascone, France)
Price: $10.99 Special Price: $9.89 Case Price: $9.34
Since 1912 Château du Tariquet has been home to the Grassa family. They first gained notoriety for Hélène and Pierre Grassa's Armagnac, which is still produced today. In the 1980's their children, Maïté and Yves, broke all the rules by producing their first still wines, a blend of Ugni Blanc and Colombard. The first of many awards received by Yves and his family include a Gold Medal in Montpellier and "Winemaker of the Year" by the International Wine Challenge in London. This blend is a delicious, light and refreshing wine, with floral aromas; it displays citrus flavors with a touch of exotic fruit.
2004 Benjamin de Vieux Gaubert (Bordeaux, France)
Price: $19.99 Special Price: $17.99 Case Price: $16.99
The winemaker and owner of this terrific estate is the young Dominique Haverlan. He is the president of the Growers Association in the Graves region of Bordeaux. The soil here is composed of riverbed gravel typical to the region. The blend is 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Semillon. A portion of the Semillon is barrel-fermented in new cask to enhance the wine's texture.
2005 Cotes de Nuits Village, Bertrand Ambroise (Burgundy, France)
Price: $35.99 Special Price: $32.39 Case Price: $30.58
The domaine of Bertrand Ambroise was established in the late 18th century in the village of Prémeaux-Prissey, just north of Nuits Saint Georges. Today the estate has expanded to 42 acres which are worked diligently by Bertrand and his family. Bertrand produces some of the finest examples of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Burgundy. He often works with 10%-30% lower yields than are allowed. The style of Bertrand's wines can be characterized as ripe, deeply extracted, full bodied wines. The Côtes de Nuits Villages comes from vineyards just above the famous village of Nuits Saint Georges. This thick and dense wine is filled with intense black fruits
2005 Cotes du Rhone, Vielles Vigne, Santa Duc (Rhone Valley, France)
Price: $13.99 Special Price: $12.59 Case Price: $11.89
Yves Gras of Domaine Santa Duc is a legendary producer of Gigondas, and has bottled for us this old-vines cuvée of Côtes du Rhône. The Vieilles Vignes is a blend of fruit from Gigonda's neighboring villages of Vacqueyras (25%), Rasteau (25%), Seguret (25%) and Rouaix (25%). This wine is technically a Côtes du Rhône Villages, as it comes from the best designated villages in the appellation. The Vieilles Vignes is 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre. Average vine age is 40+ years. Fruit is harvested very late - sûr maturité ( super ripe). Yields are 42 hecto/hectare (or 2.5 tons per acre) - not the 52 hecto/hectare allowable for Côtes du Rhône Villages. As is traditional, this cuvée is all tank made - with no destemming and is bottled unfiltered
2004 Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine Font de Michelle, France)
Price: $44.99 Special Price: $40.41 Case Price: $38.24
Owned by the Gonnet family, this domaine is run by two brothers, Michel and Jean. Font de Michelle is located in Bédarrides, the southern-most village in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This Châteauneuf-du-Pape shows exotic and floral aromas on the nose, with bright red berry and plum aromas lifted by clove and cinnamon. It is quite ripe, with deep flavors of bitter cherry, intense spices and smoke. The finish is luscious and long, with very gentle tannins.
2005 Santa Emma, Amplus One
Price: $19.99 Special Price: $17.99 Case Price: $16.99
Santa Ema was established by Pedro Pavone in 1917, the son of Italian winemakers from Piedmont in Italy. Santa Ema was named one of the 20 "World's Finest value Brands" by Wine Spectator in 2005. "The wine is a blend of 70% Carmenere, 26% Syrah, and 4% Carignan and was aged for 12 months in 100% new French oak. Purple-colored, it gives up an excellent perfume of forest floor, smoked meat, and blueberry. This is followed by a layered wine with a plush texture, ripe fruit, soft tannins, and enough structure to evolve for 3-5 years. It should drink well through 2025." 91 points Jay Miller, The Wine Advocate
Beer Tastings
In October of 1997, not far from the birthplace of baseball, ground was broken for what was to become America's most unique microbrewery. Based on traditional Belgian farmhouse architecture and set on a former hop farm in upstate New York, Brewery Ommegang was born with the philosophy that truly unique ales must be built from the ground up. The saying at the brewery is that "Ommegang is located 3,624 miles from Brussels, but its heart is right in Belgium."
Rare Vos Amber Ale $7.99 750ml
Named after a Brussels bar made famous as the starting point for bicycle and pigeon races, our Rare Vos Amber Ale is also a great place to begin your virtual taste test. Smooth, mildly sweet, and sometimes a little hoppy, Belgium's amber ales are not to be confused with the sourer, yet interesting, "red" beers.
Ommegang Dubbel Trappist Style Abbey Ale $7.99 750ml
Ommegangs first brew was inspired by the centuries-old brewing practices of the Belgian Trappist monks. This burgundy coloured brew gives off a variety of aromas, including plum and cinnamon, and packs in flavors such as caramel, toffee, and licorice.
Hennepin Saison Style Ale $7.99 750ml
This rustic style is typically brewed in small farmstead breweries, like ours. Golden in color and highly effervescent, Saisons are very versatile when it comes to season and cuisine. Hennepin is bright and lively in your mouth with a warming mix of spicy gingersnap and citrusy hops.
Three Philosophers Quadrupel Trappist Style Abbey Ale $8.99 750ml
The term Quadrupel signifies something extraordinary, even by Belgian brewing standards. They are usually strong, malty, and, like a fine wine, pack in flavors so dense and complex that they mature with cellar aging. A luscious blend of rich malty ale and cherry lambic with the flavours of cherries, roasted malts, and dark chocolate.
