Upcoming Beer & Wine Tastings September 21-22

Southern California
For our final week we decided to join the South of the Bay and Central Coast into one tasting. I know that we are covering over 30 AVA's, but we just couldn't wait to introduce the wines of Southern California.

So please join us to celebrate the final week of California Wine Month from 1PM-7PM, Friday  Saturday and taste the fabulous wines of Southern California.

All full or mixed cases of California wines are 20% off this Friday and Saturday only.

2005 Chardonnay, Au Bon Climat (Santa Barbara)
Jim Clendenen, who worked several harvests in Burgundy and Champagne in the late 1970's, was one of the pioneers in wine-making around the Santa Barbara area. This Chardonnay displays superb fruit and purity, an enticing perfume, and a lusty, long finish in an irresistible elixir that will leave the bottle drained before you know it.

2005 Mourvedre, Graff Family Vineyards (Monterey)
This wine is 100% Mourvèdre. This grape, rare in California, comes mainly from the warmer regions of the south of France and is the primary grape in the wonderful wines of the Bandol in Provence. It's deep and full-bodied, with superb fruit and the right amount of sweet tannin.

2004 Zaca Mesa "Z" Cuvee (San Ynez Valley)

2005 Pali Wine Co. Cargasacchi Jalama Pinot Noir (Santa Barbara)
Pali Wine Co. was founded by a group of friends who just happen to have some of the best grape growing contacts in the West Coast.  Their winemaker is none other than the Pinot Noir master Brian Loring.  This is a deeply layered and complex wine, and while elegant and balanced, it possesses great depth with spicy nuances.

2005 Rosenblum Cellars Zinfandel(San Francisco Bay, California)
From one of the classic growers of Zinfandel in California, this is a powerful Zinfandel with loads of ripe, spicy,  peppery nose, Rhone-like scents of dried earth and roasted herbs with a lush, fleshy mid-palate, and a medium to full-bodied, attractively rich finish.

Oktoberfest  Beer!

Started in 1810 when the Crown Prince of Bavaria, Ludwig I, commissioned all of the Munich breweries to develop a new style of beer to commemorate his wedding - they did and the party and the beer lasted three weeks.  Today, over its three week run, Oktoberfest is attended by over 6 million people each year, consuming over 7.5 million liters of beer. Over the following three weeks we'll be tasting some traditional and not so traditional brews for the celebration.

Augustiner "Maximator" Doppelbock
$11.99 6-pack

The earliest documented evidence of this brewery's existence comes from the year 1328 (when a major fire spared the brewing house).  This year is now commonly accepted as the founding year, although the brewery had probably existed for several years before the fire. The monastery was granted the right not only to brew beer but also to sell it on their premises which started the tradition of brewery-owned beer halls that still exists today. One taste and it'll be clear why this beer has been around for nearly 800 years.

Paulaner Oktoberfest
$10.99 6-pack

With its caramelized, barely malty nose, the rich, full taste with a creamy and full finish makes the Paulaner Oktoberfest the most popular beer in Germany.  The brewery's name stems from the Paulist monks who brewed beer first in 1627.

Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest
$10.99 6-pack

The history of the Hacker-Pschorr Brewery can be traced back as far as 1417 and the brewing process has remained virtually unchanged for over 580 years. This is a classic Bavarian Märzen style - clear, with a rich amber color, full-bodied, flavorful with a rich, creamy head and a caramelized barley, sweet, malty nose.

Sam Adams Oktoberfest
$7.99 6-pack

A combination of four malts produces a deep amber beer. Sam Adams Oktoberfest is true to the original style, full-bodied and malty, with a bready aroma and light brisk hop bitterness.
