Gina’s Choice…
2005 Pinot Gris, “Illmitz”, Kracher (Burgenland, Austria)
Regular price: $19.99 Special price: $17.99
Although best known for his delicious dessert style wines, Alois Kracher has been producing top Austrian wines (both dry and sweet) since 1986 when he returned home to make wines with his father whom he calls the “the real pioneer” of the area. This Pinot Gris offers delicate white fruit aromas with hints of vanilla; fragrant acidity, and an elegant edge. It’s a perfect summer wine!
2004 Riesling-Kabinett, Bernkasteler Badstube, Dr. Thanisch (Mosel, Germany)
Regular price: $19.99 Special price: $17.99
The viticultural tradition of the Thanisch family can be traced back over 350 years! The oldest official documentation is dated 1636. The quality of the family's wines soon extended their excellent reputation far beyond Germany. This Riesling offers a bouquet of citrus and apple aromas with mineral slate characters. The medium style and refreshing acidity make this a perfect wine for so many occasions!
2004 Gewurztraminer, “Hugel”, Hugel (Alsace, France)
Regular price: $19.99 Special price: $17.99
Who doesn’t love Gewurztraminer! I especially love this one from Hugel, one of the oldest families in Alsace where the first traces of this historical winemaking family can be traced back to the 15th century! This grape is the great specialty of Alsace where its’ aromatic expressiveness attains wild summits. Spicy and suave, it can be enjoyed on its own, but makes a marvelous accompaniment to all rich, spicy dishes.
2006 Coto de Hayas Rosado, Bodegas Aragonesas (Campo de Borja, Spain)
Regular price: $8.99 Special price: $8.09
Rosés are some of my favorite summer wines especially on a hot day by the pool! And this one made of mostly Garnacha and a little Tempranillo is no exception-full of strawberry and cheery fruit and some leafy herbs-savory and refreshing!
2004 Dolcetto d’Alba, “La Chiesa”, Seghesio (Piedmont, Italy)
Regular price: $17.99 Special price: $16.19
The range of wines from the Seghesio family is of very high quality including the Barolo La Villa which we opened a few weeks ago on the tasting bar. Gentle, fruity and fragrant; this Dolcetto is a perfect red for sipping on a hot summer day.
2001 Priorat, Reserva, Rottlan Torra (Priorat, Spain)
Regular price: $19.99 Special price: 17.99
While most of the wineries featured this week have been making wine for many, many years; this property is the relative newcomer. Having founded the winery in 1986, Jordi Rottlan Torra was one of the pioneers of the new wave of winemakers who entered this region; he had the vision to see the possibilities that existed. 50% Garnacha, 25% Carignan, and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon-this wine shows the unique aspects of a traditional Priorat wine.
2002 Malbec, Bodegas Weinert (Mendoza, Argentina)
Regular price: $22.99 Special price: $20.69
Don Bernardo C. Weinert, founder and owner, built his name around international transport in South America. Fascinated by the world of wine, he decided to found his own winery in Argentina with one unconditional philosophy: producing high quality wines. This 100% Malbec is a prime example of his commitment to quality. It is perfect with a Grilled Rib-eye!
