Friday and Saturday, June 1-2, 2007
2005 Vinho Verde, Quinta do Ferro Avesso (Baiao, Portugal)
Regular price $9.99 Special price $8.99
The name Vinho Verde (Green Wine) has never been completely explained. But its crisp, fruity character, low alcohol, and slightly péttilant quality, seem to have earmarked it quite early as a refreshing alternative to more robust wines. This wine is made from the Avesso variety which has an intense aroma and flavor, and a fresh, full-bodied aftertaste.
2006 Gascogne Blanc, Lalanne (Cotes de Gascogne, France)
Regular price $9.99 Special price $8.99
This wine is a blend of 40% Ugni Blanc, 30% Gros Manseng, 30% Colombard. The Colombard produces a generous transparent aroma-filled juice which is combined with Gros-Manseng for its complexity and Ugni-Blanc for its freshness and delicacy. Domaine Lalanne is the expression of Gascony. It is fruity, crisp and lively with flavors of flowers, exotic fruits, and hazelnuts.
2005 Hatziyiannis, Santorini (Santorini, Greece)
Regular price $19.99 Special price $17.99
A blend of Assyrtiko, Athiri, and Aidani, native varieties of the island, with aromas of honey, flowers, and a chalky minerality; it is full on the palate with an almost oily texture and a long, dry finish. This is a wonderful experience, especially if you are new to Greek wine!
2004 Scheurebe, Fruwirth (Steiermark, Austria)
Regular price $17.99 Special price $16.19
In the rolling hills of Southeast Styria on the border of Hungary and Slovenia, Kloech is a town of thermal spas and volcanic soils that are represented in the wines of the Fruhwirth estate. Scheurebe is a very fresh, zesty varietal which comes from a clone of Riesling and Sylvaner. This wine is very aromatic with notes of peaches and tart fruit as well as herbaceous grassy tones and amazing minerality.
2005 PRA Soave (Veneto, Italy)
Regular price $16.99 Special price $15.29
Soave has long been a lightweight, in every sense, in the white wine division. But this dense, oak-free Soave Classico from the Prà family will change your view of what Soave can do. This is pure Soave- 100% Garganega. And that, in turn, means minerals, hay and wildflowers. After tasting this you’ll really be angry with Soave’s wine industrialists.
2005 Macon Pierreclos, Thevenet (Burgundy, France)
Regular price $16.99 Special price $15.29
A classic Maconnais, this wine has a clean, apple blossom scent and spring-like freshness. Light, gentle but persuasive, Thevenet's Pierreclos reveals the appealing flavor of butter as well as apple, mingled with a touch of lime and a certain "je ne sais quoi", which makes it go down oh…so easy.
2002 Schleret Gewurztraminer (Alsace, France)
Regular price $26.99 Special price $24.29
The regular bottling of 2002 Gewurztraminer Herrenweg displays terrific rose petal, honeyed grapefruit, and pineapple-like fruit in both its aromatics and flavors. Powerful, rich, and dry, it should drink well for 5-8+ years.
