Tour de France (well, the Rhone Valley anyway!)
Located in southeastern France, just south of Burgundy, between the city of Lyon and the region of Provence, the Rhône Valley is an extremely diverse wine growing region. As the growing season is sunny and hot, the wines tend to be full and robust. There is also a distinct difference between wines made in the northern Rhône Valley and those of the south.  The wines of the Northern Rhône region are primarily Syrah, where in the south they are almost always blends, with Grenache being the dominant grape varietal followed by Syrah and Mourvedre.  Please join us at the i.m.Wine tasting bar this Friday and Saturday after 1pm as we make our way through a sampling of Rhône offerings.

2005 Viognier, Dom de Gournier (Cevennes)
standard price $11.99  sale $10.79
This delicious and unique white possesses heady aromas of ripe apricots, orange blossoms, flowers, cream & soft spices. It is a terrific alternative to Chardonnay because it also has a rich full body, creamy texture & moderate acidity.

2005 Château Guiot Rosé (Costieres de Nimes)
standard price $10.99  sale $9.89
A blend of Grenache, Syrah and a small dollop of Cinsault, it displays a nose of spicy raspberries and pepper. Light to medium-bodied and satin-textured, it offers a flavor profile of red fruits with a note of peach that makes an appearance in the finish.

2004 Domaine de la Petite Cassagne (Costieres de Nimes)
standard price $10.99  sale $9.89
40% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre; this smoky tinged dark garnet wine turns pink at the rim, and features a generous character of smoke, brined olives, bacon, blackberry, black plum and a little oak and mineral, with a smooth mouth feel.

2004 “Les Quatre Terres” Dom Santa Duc (Cotes du Rhone)
standard price $14.99  sale $13.49
A blend of 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 5% Cinsault & Carignan; the grapes for this wine were picked from 4 vineyards hence the name “Les Quatre Terres”. It is dark garnet in color with a fragrant deep, dark and rich smoke, leather, black currant, blackberry and black cherry nose. These aromas follow through emphatically to the palate, on a medium full to full bodied frame, with silky tannins, good acidity and a nice long finish.

2003 St Joseph “Offerus” J. L. Chave (St. Joseph)
standard price $26.99  sale $24.29
Medium ruby red in color with a pungent aroma of cherry, smoked meat, lavender and licorice; this wine is quite meaty on the palate, with a rich, thick texture and very ripe dark plum flavor. It is an impressively concentrated, powerful wine that combines a distinct wildness with noteworthy sweetness of fruit.

2003 Gigondas, Dom. Santa Duc (Gigondas)
standard price $32.99  sale $29.69
This blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre is rich and focused with a complex leathery, red berry-cassis, oak tinged and rustic spicy-herb nose.  It gives off a beautiful but slight bouquet of super ripe fruit.  The palate is massive with deep extract flavors of cassis and cherry, and a chunky texture that has plenty of acidity.  The wine finishes deep and layered, with a rustic “grapey” note.

2003 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Dom Font de Michelle (Chateuaneuf-du-Pape)
standard price $37.99  sale $34.19
Comprised of 70% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 10% Cinsault; the wine is already evolved, sexy, and seductive.  It reveals roasted herbs, sweet black cherry jam, plum, currant, and peppery, barrique-infused characteristics. The aromatic smorgasbord is followed by a lush, heady, and medium to full-bodied, supple-textured, delicious wine.
