Weekly Wine Tastings March 14-15, 2008

“Whites for Easter Dinner”

Please join us at the i.m.Wine tasting bar every Friday and Saturday from 1-7pm; this week we are tasting:

2005 Pinot Noir Rose, Etude (Carneros, California)
Winemaker Tony Soter has been making consistently good Pinot Noir in Napa Valley for many years, and his Pinot Noir rose has been just as good.  The 2005 has a beautiful pale pink color with vibrant and juicy aromas of just-picked strawberries and sweet oranges. Lush flavors of strawberries and pomegranate carry over on the palate and lead to a long, satisfying finish.
Regular: $17.99   Special: $16.19   Case: $15.29

2005 Riesling Kabinett, Selbach-Oster (Mosel Saar Ruwer, Germany)
The latest rendition of what is fast becoming an annual classic – smells of marjoram, lemon oil, wet stone, and fresh apple, comes to the palate sappy, juicy, saline, and invigoratingly tart – featuring lemon, grapefruit, and their rinds. This dry-tasting wine of perfectly-judged (i.e. not evident) sweetness finishes with hints of vanilla, wet stone, salted, honey-tinged citrus zest, and a satisfied smacking of the lips.
Regular: $18.99   Special: $17.09   Case: $16.14

Sokol Blosser “Evolution #9” (Oregon, France)
Every new bottling has its own subtle and fresh personality. The 9 grapes tie together perfectly, creating a smooth, layered white wine that can hold its own or stand up to just about any food pairing you dare to serve it with. It is extraordinarily food-friendly, from light salads to the hottest fusion-style cuisine.
Regular: $20.99   Special: $18.89   Case: $17.84

2006 Grüner Veltliner Federspiel, Karl Lagler (Wachau, Austria)
This is textbook Grüner Veltliner with some richness, and promise for short-term ageing. Subtle, brooding peppery nose leads to a rich, full palate with a lovely texture and good depth of ripe melony fruit (just a hint of pear and spice character). This is quite a rich, concentrated style of Grüner, but nonetheless very easy to drink.
Regular: $21.99   Special: $19.79   Case: $18.69

2005 Riesling Reserve, Albert Seltz (Alsace, Fance)
Albert Seltz is passionate about wine. And he should be- he comes from thirteen generations of winemakers in Mittelbergheim. Made from 20 year old vineyards in Mittelbergheim; following pressing, these hand-harvested grapes are fermented in stainless steel with minimal intervention at the winery, using natural yeasts. Lemon aromas give way to beautiful acidity with great length.
Regular: $13.99   Special: $12.59   Case: $11.89
