Weekly Wine Tastings February 29 - March 1, 2008

A Tour of Italy's Piedmont

Please join us at the i.m.Wine tasting bar every Friday and Saturday from 1-7pm; this week we are tasting:

2006 Roero Arneis, Matteo Correggia
Arneis is a white grape variety indigenous to the Piedmont region. The wines can show markedly 'Rhônesque' flavors of greenage and peach, and this one has opulent flavors of citrus fruit, greengage, minerals and pear. This is a more full-bodied and expressive Arneis that Correggia has made without sacrificing any freshness or minerality.
Price: $17.99   Special: $16.19   Case: $14.61

2006 Barbera d’Alba, Fratelli Revello
The 2006 Barbera d’Alba is inviting. Fresh and aromatic on the nose, it offers generous amounts of spices, flowers, plums and berries on a soft-textured frame and provides highly enjoyable drinking at this level. 89 Pts. Wine Advocate
Price: $21.99   Special: $19.79   Case: $18.69

2006 Barbera d’Alba Seghesio
A modern-styled Barbera, Seghesio’s 2006 Barbera d’Alba is a super-ripe Barbera with a big jammy nose of plums, tar, cloves, and sweet toasted oak. The palate offers well defined flavours of plum, spice, tar, and chocolate that is refreshed by the tonic acidity of the close with elegant tannins and gorgeous length. This wine offers outstanding balance in its own way and competes well with the best wines of the appellation.
Price: $21.99   Special: $19.79  Case: $18.69

2005 Rosso di Tavola, Paolo Scavino
Robert Parker has called Scavino, “a master of Barolo. This is a blend of 40% Nebbiolo,  25% Barbera, 25% Dolcetto and 10%Cabernet Sauvignon.”. The wine is a deep ruby-red color with a nose of currant, bitter cherry, mocha, pepper, and smoke.  A Concentrated flavor of red berries and black pepper good acidity with a ripe finish, smooth tannins and very good persistence. This would go well with roasted game with dark berry sauces, roasted red meats and medium-aged cheeses.
Price: $22.99   Special: $20.69   Case: $19.54

2003 Barolo, Luigi Pira
We sold out of our first allocation of Giampaolo Pira’s rich, super concentrated 2003, so we thought we’d try again. With a case price the lowest in the state, this is a Barolo everyone can love. “2003 could have been a recipe for over the top wines, except that Pira is based in Serralunga and therefore had the benefit of working with some of the sites that were among the most favored in this vintage. The 2003 Barolo is loaded with flavor as well as character. It offers sweet aromatics, dark ripe fruit and mentholated, balsamic overtones with notable intensity and vibrancy.” 90 Points Wine Advocate
Price: $43.99   Special: $38.69   Case: $36.54
